"A fascinating book that vividly recounts one of the most tragic true-stories to emerge from the Iraq war: the slaying of a decorated US Army soldier by his own teammates. This is an eloquent, disturbing, and haunting portrayal of the true cost of war. A remarkable work." -- Mark Boal –journalist, and screenwriter of The Hurt Locker and In the Valley of Elah
"This work has been created with an insightful heart and an activist's drive. Cilla's writing denotes a deep sense of personal responsibility for the veterans of the Iraq War and it is from this platform that she advocates and encourages the reader to feel the same. The pain and injustice that has been endured by our veterans and their families is universal and should never be an acceptable loss." -- Writer/Director Paul Haggis
Army Specialist Richard T. Davis survived one of the bloodiest
battles during America’s initial invasion of Iraq. So savage in fact, it is now
known as the “Midtown Massacre." But on July 14, 2003, within hours of his return to Ft. Benning, he was mercilessly tortured and murdered. His body was set on fire and left in the Georgia woods. Months later,
four members of his own platoon were arrested for the crime.
Since that time, controversy and conflicting theories have
plagued this case and the many others that followed.
Although this story has received international media attention, including a
48 Hours episode and serving as the inspiration behind the Paul Haggis film,
In The Valley of Elah, until now, no source has come close to revealing
the full details of this case.
"If you ask us we will tell you the truth. "
